Our Team

Dr Samuel Waithe

I’m Samuel ‘Sammy’ Waithe, CEO of the company. Originally from the Caribbean island of Barbados I spent most of my career in banking and technology before embarking on this journey. To build the strongest senior team I could, I called upon the great expertise of my brother, Adrian to be COO, encouraged a former colleague and friend Lee Mascall to act as a Non Exec Director and asked a friend of mine, Frederic Feldmann, who represented the fresh approach I wanted, to join the team as COS. Direction I imagined our sales and marketing going, was to build on the difference of our background in the stone industry and to appeal in a different way to our clients and partners. Also, we wanted a part of our pitch to promote the unique traditions and customs of the region and its people, as well as Italian stone generally.

Samuel Waithe, CEO

I found myself in the leadership
team of a US$1.2B company,
running a global business line out of New York.

I started life as an ordinary scientist

I started life as an ordinary scientist, having done a doctorate degree in parallel processing and large databases before I moved into banking right at the moment the digital revolution really began to pick up. In a case of right place, right time, I found my skills in demand and worked in investment banking before eventually going on to co-found a series of companies called Cresta Group, based in London. We were bought out by a couple of companies, and I found myself in the leadership team of a US$1.2B company, running a global business line out of New York. I did retire for 2 years after that and moved to Berlin, but I was drawn back to working life after I realised that my real passion has always derived from the satisfaction I get from entrepreneurial activities.

After a stint as a senior management consultant, last with Citi Group, I decided to explore this passion again and fate led me to the Saturnia quarry. Now, I try to apply a lifetime’s lessons and experience to a project that I truly love, feel makes a meaningful difference, and I have assembled a strong team to help me.

Lee Mascall, Non Exec Director

This is not just a business for me.
Its a journey for all of us involved
and one I love being part of

I’m Lee Mascall, a non executive director here at Saturnia. From the United Kingdom, I’ve spent 23 years in technology and leadership, holding senior roles in banking technology for a number of international organisations from the United Kingdom to the United Arab Emirates. Since Sammy and I have been involved in a number of businesses together, when he first brought the concept of Saturnia to me I was immediatly interested.

I agreed to support the project and having been involved in a SME before I knew I could bring my knowledge and experience to the capability of the management team in what I initally considered to be just a rather quirky investment. But it was once I got on the ground, saw the place and met the people, that I realised the true potential of Saturnia and understood how Sammy and Adrian could become so invested in this Project.

Adrian Waithe, COO

Hi I’m Adrian Waite, COO of the company. Barbados born and raised and then moved to New York. I trained as an Accountant in both the Manufacturing and Construction industries and was the COO at Cresta Testing Inc. and later Program Manager at Keane Inc. I also worked at JP Morgan, Credit Suisse, UBS, Harvard University and Sony. I agreed to join my brother here because I see a complex and challenging work environment in an industry in need of modernization.

I see a complex and challenging work environment in an industry in need of modernization.

I use my skills as a qualified Accountant to manage the financials of the company, and my skills as a programmer and affinity with the digital sphere to ensure that the company maintains cutting edge systems and technology, as well as properly uses the data about its customers and markets to make sure that our customers are best served. The satisfaction I get from pouring my efforts into a business that is small but so connected to the lives of our local community and their families, rather than a massive organisation, truly binds me to this work and makes me consider this to be one of the most rewarding roles of my career.

Anderson Silva, COS

You can say I worked my way up in the company, so it was hugely rewarding to take up the challenge when Sammy approached me to lead and continue to develop our global sales capability.

Hi, my name is Anderson. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, I have lived and worked around the world, from South Korea to Eastern Europe where I now live with my wife and children. I started work in administrative life with an importer and exporter of precious stones in the city of São Paulo where I quickly rose to General Manager of the company, coordinating the entire company team. I spent ten years working in sales and customer support, and it was during this period that I gained the necessary experience to manage our global sales team today.

I joined Saturnia in its nascent form in 2016 as Support for the then Head of Sales. Later, I went into sales myself for my home country of Brazil, increasing sales there to become Saturnia’s largest non-European region, whilst also leading the newly formed Sales Support team. You can say I worked my way up in the company, so it was hugely rewarding to take up the challenge when Sammy approached me to lead and continue to develop our global sales capability.

I deal with clients in Russian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Portuguese and English (no, I still do not speak Italian) and the relationships we are developing thanks to our marvellous stone, together with our professionalism and passion for the work we do, makes me and my team delighted to work for Saturnia Travertini Italia, one of the biggest travertine quarries in Italy.
